Unfold the Black & Gold

For all of the fans that were able to attend the Black & Gold Intrasquad on December 4th, they not only saw a team-friendly gymnastics competition, but witnessed the infancy of something destined to be incredible.

Just hours before the meet began, there was already a fortified mood set within the room; pure excitement. Tape was being wraped on, ipods were set on the pump up playlist and mentalities were fixated on a winning day. Both teams, Men's and Women's, were profusely covering themseleves in the armour of Black & Gold paint, t-shirts, and posters. As each teams gymnasts conversed with the opposite color, they all wished each other good luck and a successful meet. It was no guessing matter that each person displayed thier own mark of sportsmanship, however it was their competitive edge that was bursting at the seems.

The Gold Team was intent on taking the title again this year and assuming their position as number one. The Black Team was bent on stealing the title and ensuring their bragging rights for the next year. As the national anthem rounded its way towards its last lines, the men assumed their battle stations and set off to out do the other team in hopes of becoming victorious. The Black Team defeated the Gold, but it was no walk through the park; for Gold surely brought their A-game. But this competition was so much more than a inter-team battle...it was a physical pronouncement to the university and public that Iowa Men's Gymnastics is alive and well and ready for the 2010-2011 season.

With the season now underway, we believe that over the next couple months and years Men's Gymnastics' popularity will drastically change. With strong new additions to the coaching staff and team roster, this Team is on its way to concreting their prescence into the sub-conscious of every other Big Ten and NCAA Men's Gymnastics Program from shore to shore. Hawks be on the lookout...Iowa Men's Gymnastics is just getting started.

Countdown to the Premier

Hawkeye Fans, it is only a matter of time before the debut of your Iowa Men's Gymnastics Team at the annual "Black & Gold" Competition.

On December 4, 2010, the Gym Hawks will be displaying for the campus and public a demonstration of strength, power, and agility. This traditional intrasquad competition here at Iowa has been done for years and is still today considered one of the favorites to compete in by many of the gymnasts themselves. Despite the probable characteristics of what will be the prideful Black Team taking on the determined Gold Team, both sides nevertheless wish the best for the other as they jointly use this introductory meet as a springboard toward the flight of a prosperous season.

Hawks, there are only T-minus 53 days until the showdown. We can promise you all that this is one meet not be missed. As both the Women's and Men's Black and Gold Teams proceed to rally together in the following months, it is a performance that will surely bring out the spirit and Hawkeye pride in any audience member. Save the date and witness the beginning of what is sure to be a un-matched season by the Iowa Hawkeyes!

Hawkeyes Hard at Work

Tucked away in the furthest back corner of the Field House's North Gym is a team far-over looked and well on their way to greatness. There is no escaping the intense heat that engulfs the air and with a doubt prespiration is inevitable. But despite all of this, this Men's Gymnastics Team has never looked harder at work.

This past Friday, I had the privilege of going into the gym and getting a first-hand glimpse of the progress during practice for our Iowa Men's Gynmastics Team. I must say that there is definitely a strong, new scent coming from the workouts - and it smells like focus.

With the addition of the new coaches and workout structure, this Iowa Team is on its way to a great pre-season and even better competition season. Even though the men are currently focusing on the basic skill work of the sport at this point, their work ethic mimics that of mid-season training. But do not be fooled, the Hawkeyes are not just all work and no personality. On the outside looking in, the connection between the coaching staff and players looks great. Between the small conversations about life/school to the helpful tips on mastering their skills, I can definitely see the positive progression of this talent-rich team.

Needless to say, I am very excited to see what this team will do this year. I am confident that the determined metalities of these gymnasts will take them very far. Lets rally and support our Iowa Hawkeyes! The 2010-201l season is just around the corner!

Welcome Hawkeye Nation: Let the Pre-Season Begin

University of Iowa Hawkeyes, get ready because in the 2010, your Univeristy of Iowa Men's Gymanstics Team is going to take their program to the next level!

For those of you who don't know, the men's side of the Gymnastics program here on campus is undergoing some major changes as we approach the pre-season for the 2010-2011 competition year. Our veteran Head Coach of 29 years has retired and has passed the reigns of our historic program into promising hands of previous Stanford Univeristy Assistant Coach, JD Reive. After completing a very successful run at the No. 2 ranked Stanford University, he has decided to lead and utilize the great potential here at Iowa and catapulte this team in the Big Ten and National Rankings.

This blog has one main goal: to inform the students and public about one of the greatest Olympic Sports and its extensive history here at University of Iowa. Accumulating numerous national champions, champiosnhips, and even having trained Olympic Gymnasts over the years, the program at Iowa is known nationally for its rich legacy.

Because of these new changes within the program, our goal here on the blog is to help the student body become more familiar with Men's Gymanstics and what the goal of our program is this year. Being a previous Hawkeye Gymnast myself, I understand what this Iowa program is about and where it is headed--now I want to share it with all of you!

In this upcoming year, we will give you an inside look, pictures, facts, and videos of the pain and glory of what it is Division 1 Gymnastics at Iowa. This blog will both educate, entertain and allow those on the outside looking in on our sport to become invovled with one of the worlds most popular Olympic past times.

Please enjoy the blog and follow us! Comment, comment, comment!
